Donna has been a massage practitioner for 16 years, having graduated from the Brian Utting School of Massage in 1996. She chose this school because of it's nationally recognized reputation and it's cirriculum focused on treatment massage. She is in private practice and is co-owner of Kirkland Healing Arts in downtown Kirkland.
Massage specialties include Deep Tissue Massage and Craniosacral Therapy. Other modalies utilized are Reiki, neuromuscular re-education, trigger point release, fascial release, somatics and relaxation massage.
Her approach to body work is as a listener, problem solver and educator. Deciding which modality or combination of modalities to use in each session requires listening. Clients express their pain, discomfort or need for change verbally and non-verbally. Words, posture, movement all are taken into consideration. Tissue condition and energy levels/blocks are assessed. Cranial rythms are evaluated. All is taken into consideration to determine what is needed, wether it be the reorganizing aspects of deep fascial work or the subtle yet powerful release of energy work or cranial sacral therapy. All modalities are useful and appropriate depending on the needs at the time. Time is spent with clients to educate them about the importance of proper posture and body mechanics to support the changes that occur during massage sessions.
Donna is an insurance provider with most insurance plans including Premera, Group Health, Aetna, Cigna, , United Healthcare, Pacificare and First Choice. She also accepts claims for PIP (motor vehicle accident insurance).
Donna is co-owner of Kirkland Healing Arts located in the heart of downtown Kirkland at 143 Park Lane Suite 204. All practitioners at the center operate their own businesses and come together cooperatively for promotions, to manage client care and make decisions about the direction of the wellness center. Current offerings are massage therapy, craniosacral therapy, energy balancing, acupuncture, naturopathy, skin care and laser and botox services.
A long time resident of the Seattle area Donna attended Redmond and Juanita High School and various community colleges over the years in an attempt to find her true passion. She considered and eliminated biologist, philosopher, musician, photographer and engineer. A series of fortuitious events landed her in massage school just at the time when she realized that she couldn't spend one more minute in the corporate sector. The journey to a career in massage included discovering a few passions including art, power tools and gardening.
Currently Donna is living in Snohomish and spends her time gardening, reading, listening to music, creating art and remodeling her 110 year old house. Occasionally, between projects, she finds time to actually sit on her patio or porch in her rocking chair and enjoy the view. Most often she is distracted by things that need attention as she looks out on the garden or at the house. She takes care of her garden organically and does her best to keep the lives of her two feline companions as loving and fun as possible. She grows a lot of her own food in the summer (having planted most of her landscape with edible plants) and likes to can or store some of what she grows to be enjoyed during the winter. Upcoming projects include installing more rain barrels, more permeable landscaping (hoping to tear up that asphalt driveway someday) and continuing to maintain an edible landscape for herself, her family and friends and the local wildlife.
Art Donna enjoyes creating art in her art studio adjacent to her home. Mediums include watercolor, encaustic, block print, monoprint and collage. Donna has recently started teaching beginning watercolor classes and looks forward to teaching more including beginning classes in block and monoprinting and encaustic.
Community Involvement - Donna is currently a co-captain of her neighborhood crime watch which is a pretty good match for her naturally observant and curious nature. She started her Morgantown Neighborhood crime watch in 2010 and has helped it grow from 0 to 50 members. She is active in and has helped organize her neighborhood disaster preparedness effort.
